Diffuse euthyroid goiter. Advantages of combination treatment

Abstract

This article provides a definition of diffuse euthyroid goiter (DEG) and its classification. Diagnosis, etiology and pathogenesis of this disease are detailed described. Main strategies for DEG treatment, based on clinical trial data, are described: monotherapy with L-thyroxine, iodine preparations monotherapy and combined therapy with iodine preparations and L-thyroxine. The main pros and cons of each type of therapy are shown, including prescription of treatment to prevent DEG and after surgical treatment.
