The clinical and hormonal features and their interaction with tumor volume in patients with acromegaly
AbstractThe study of the secretory activity of STH-producing pituitary adenomas and peculiarities of the relationship between clinical and hormonal features and tumor volume, will allow to differentiate between the choice of therapeutic strategies and monitoring acromegaly patients. The obtained results demonstrate the linkages between basal STH and IGF-I, and between the above hormonal activity indicators of somatotropinoma and tumor volume. In active acromegaly patients we identified a strong positive relationship between the basal STH content and it is value on 60 and 120 minutes of OGTT. The lack of correlation between the basal IGF-I and STH during OGTT in patients with disease remission may indicate that, in this case, the most important results will be the STH nadir determination during OGTT and the IGF-I level. The more weak relationship between IGF-I level and tumor volume than in pair STH and tumor volume have been revealed.
It was found that in a case of macroadenoma the correlation coefficient in pair STH and tumor volume was significantly lower than in the total group of patients, and the relationship between tumor volume and IGFI were absent. In patients with microadenoma the relationship between the major hormonal indicators of somatotropinoma activity (STH/IGF-I) and its volume is not revealed.
