Shear-Wave sonoelastography in complex clinical-instrumental diagnostics of thyroid nodules

Abstract

Nodules of the thyroid is one of the most common diseases in endocrinology. According to some sources, the occurrence of nodules of the thyroid in the population reaches 50%. Malignant tumors of the thyroid gland, though, and have a favorable prognosis, are the most frequent malignant tumors of the endocrine system.

Nodular goiter diagnosis uses different research methods, such as ultrasonography (ultrasound), scintigraphy, assessing the level of TSH, calcitonin, cytological study. Despite the diversity of methods, use them separately does not allow reliable conclusions on the nature of the tumor process.

Present work evaluates the effectiveness of an integrated clinical-instrumental approach in diagnosis of thyroid nodules using modern diagnostic tests such as ultrasonography, shear waves sonoelastography, scintigraphy, laboratory and cytological diagnosis.

Integrated approach allows to minimize probability of errors in verification of diagnosis.
