Diabetic foot syndrome: integrated treatment of trophic neuropathic ulcers

Abstract

Diabetic foot is one of the serious complications of diabetes mellitus, causing one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality, due to the rapid formation and a long healing of wound defects of the skin and soft tissues often leading to the lower limb amputations. Diabetic neuropathy is the leading element in the formation of trophic wound defects. Currently there is no standard approach to the general and local causal treatment of wound defects in patients with diabetic foot syndrome. The article describes an original technique of complex pathogenic treatment of this pathology, based on conservative therapy and local treatment of trophic neuropathic ulcers developed and applied in the «Diabetic foot» Center, Kazan. The proposed scheme has allowed to significantly reduce the average time of patients stay in hospitals and significantly reduce the amount of operative mutilation and recurrences of the lower extremities ulcers in patients with diabetic foot syndrome.
