The relationship of obesity and type 2 diabetes, in the light of evidence-based medicine

AbstractType 2 diabetes leads to disease, disability and premature death, as well as entails a heavy economic burden for patients, their families and the health care system. In 2013, 387 million people diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, a number that is expected to reach 592 million by 2035. Similarly, the prevalence of obesity continues to rise around the world, the number of people who are overweight and obese in 2013 reached 2.1 billion. Since obesity is a major risk factor for type 2 diabetes understanding of the pathogenesis of obesity and learning techniques aimed at reducing body weight are important for the prevention and treatment of type 2 diabetes.
