Real possibilities and prospects of the use of the metformin in patients with impaired carbohydrate metabolism

AbstractMetformin is one of the most widely used antidiabetic drugs in the management of type 2 diabetes. The mechanism of action is well described, there are evidence of cardioprotective, antitumor and antiaging properties of the metformin. Moreover there areexpectations for preventive usage of type 2 diabetes and for treatment of obesity. The possibility of use metformin in patient with impaired liver and kidney functions is other benefit of the drug.
