Features of management of patients older than 85 years with type 2 diabetes mellitus in Moscow (according to the State Register of patients with diabetes)
AbstractThe problem of hypoglycemic therapy of eldery people over 85 years is discussed in this article. Eldery people often have many concomitant diseases including cardiovascular and cognitive problems, renal or hepatic failure. They have to take more than 5 different medicines such as oral hypoglycemic agents, insulin injections, statins and hypotensive drugs.
The aim of this study was to analyzethe range of hypoglycemic therapy in Moscow eldery people over 85 years according to State Register of patients with diabetes.
Material and methods. Moscow City Register of Diabetes contains information about 309 110 patients with type 2 diabetes 01.09.2017. A group of patients over 85 years was selected and their hypoglycemic therapy was analyzed.
Patients over 85 years usually reach their targets of glycemic control, patients getting oral therapy have НвА1с- 7.0±0.8%, patients getting insulin - 7.6±1.1%. Only a small number of patients - 16.8% get medication with low hypoglycemic risk. We should consider wider use of modern safe hypoglycemic agents in this age group.
