The influence of sibutramine on the level of leptin, anthropometric parameters and other indicators in patients with obesity

Abstract

Obesity is not onLy an independent chronic disease that requires serious treatment, but aLso a major risk factor for many diseases, such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascuLar diseases and maLignant diseases. MetaboLic changes in obesity are not onLy impaired carbohydrate and Lipid metaboLism. Adipose tissue is considered as an endocrine organ producing substances with autocrine and systemic effects. Leptin-adipokine-is secreted by ceLLs of adipose tissue and is a hormone that reguLates energy, neuroendocrine and metaboLic processes of the body. Leptin secretion is increased in obesity. The resuLts of an observationaL study, which evaLuated the secretory activity of adipose tissue (Leptin LeveL), as weLL as anthropometric parameters and other indicators in patients with obesity, taking sibutramine (GoLdLine pLus), were pubLished in this articLe. During the 6 months of treatment with GoLdLine pLus in 50 patients, the LeveL of Leptin significantLy was decreased by haLf, there was aLso a significant decrease in body weight and waist circumference, positive dynamics of Leptin was reveaLed in reLation to the reduction of the other indicators, estimated in the study.
