Influence of bariatric embolization of the left gastric artery on the metabolic health of patients with obesity

Abstract

The prevalence of overweight and obesity is growing rapidly in the modern world. Currently more than 250 million people are obese (7% of the population), over 1 billion people are overweight (>30% of the population). By 2025, according to World Health Organization experts, the number of people with obesity will increase almost 2 times and will be from 30 to 50 percent of the population of economically developed countries. Embolization of the left gastric artery is an innovative, minimally invasive method of treating obesity, which allows to reduce body weight six months after its implementation by 17-18% on average. This technique, long used in emergency medicine as a method to stop gastric bleeding, has a new potential in the treatment of obesity.
