Role and functions of melatonin
AbstractMelatonin is the hormone of the pineal gland, which is produced with night / day rhythm and is the main regulator of circadian rhythms. Darkness is the main factor contributing to its synthesis. In this context, the problem of light pollution is of particular relevance. Disruption of melatonin production can cause the breakdown of adaptation mechanisms, leading to the development and progression of a number of chronic diseases.
