Report about the VESNA program. Effective treatment of obesity – the way to combat the epidemic of diabetes mellitus

Abstract

Prevalence of overweight and obesity is growing steadily. At the same time, the rapid spread of obesity contributes to the increase of the incidence of diabetes type II. Disorders of carbohydrate and lipid metabolism are studied for many decades, but only in recent years scientists closer to understanding the relationship between obesity and diabetes. The mechanism of lipotoxicity may be a pathogenetic basis. The VESNA program became the first serious step on the management and prevention of risks of using drugs for the treatment of obesity and overweight.
