Looking at the problem of obesity through the eyes of the patient and the doctor

Abstract

The problem of obesity is particularly relevant in connection with the extent of its spread in Russia, including among young people. In our work, we assessed the problems in everyday life faced by patients with already existing diseases associated with obesity, and young people with obesity without pathology. Anonymous survey of patients was conducted with their oral consent, anthropometric measurements were carried out, blood pressure, heart rate at rest, lipid spectrum were determined and cardiovascular risk was stratified. The results of the study revealed many problems with the lifestyle of patients and young people with obesity, high cardiometabolic risks and psychosocial difficulties in everyday life. Most respondents seek to reduce body weight in words, but the readiness for medication therapy for obesity is low, which may be due to low awareness of this issue and insufficient work of doctors in this direction. Patients with osteoarthritis and type 2 diabetes mellitus have a number of other obesity-related conditions. Among young people with obesity, a significant number have an increase in blood pressure. Thus, the information obtained gives an idea of the depth of the problem of obesity, the importance of the preventive problem of work with patients and the timeliness of non-drug and drug intervention.
