Evidence-based medicine or ORIGIN study lessons (Outcome Reduction with Initial Glargine INtervention)

Abstract

One of the most significant and global studies of the last decade is ORIGIN (Outcome Reduction with Initial Glargine INtervention-reducing the effects of diabetes mellitus by early administration of insulin glargine) -a comparison of the treatment with Lantus (insulin glargine 100 U/ml) with standard hypoglycemic therapy in terms of time the development of the first major cardiovascular complication. The results obtained in a long-term study proved the effectiveness of insulin therapy (glargine 100 U/ml), cardio and cancer safety.
