The WHO strategy for the prevention of obesity. First Day against obesity in Russia

Abstract

Obesity – a global problem, overweight and obesity are among the five major risk factors for death. Every year at least 2,8 million adults die because of overweight or obesity. Furthermore, 44% of diabetes, and 23% of coronary heart disease and from 7 to 41% of cancers are caused by overweight and obesity. In 2013, Russia joined the European Day against obesity. For the first time the event was part in May 2013. United action of obese patients, endocrinologists, dieticians, bariatric surgeons, policy-makers, the media and gave an opportunity to discuss the main problems and their solution and effective mechanisms for individual patient care. In addition, obesity is discussed in the context of diseases, leading to significant encumbrances to society. Day against obesity in Russia will be held annually, attracting more partners to put pointed questions, the solution of which depends on the effective prevention of obesity and qualified help available to patients.
