Credibility of FRAX results in women with recurrent fractures according to clinical practice

Abstract

This research is devoted to analysis the presence of risk factors (RF) for the development of osteoporosis in patients aged 48 to 88 with a previous history of low-energy fractures (LF), estimat the 10-year probability of developing LF and the threshold of therapeutic intervention (the individual probability of a fracture which is justified to start treatment) by FRAX, evaluat the risk of falls in these patients, reveal a group of patients who need antiresorptive therapy.

The point of therapeutic intervention according to FRAX was found in 50% of patients, the need for densitometry to confirm the need for treatment was found in 23.077%, the lack of the need for treatment and densitometry was found in 23.077%, that indicates the inferiority of this FRAX.

According to the results of the study, it was found that FRAX does not give reliable results on the need for treatment of patients with LF. Further refinement of FRAX is needed to more accurately identify a group of patients with osteoporosis's who require antiresorptive therapy.
