Long-term effect of paraaortic irradiation on adrenal function
AbstractThe use of modern comprehensive treatment programs for Hodgkin lymphoma leads to the complete cure of most patients. However the methods used have a number of side effects, some of which appear years later. In order to assess the functional state of the adrenal glands, 27 patients were included in the study after paraaortic irradiation for Hodgkin lymphoma. The duration of remission ranged from 2 to 27 years. All patients underwent the ACTH 1-24 stimulation test, cortisol levels exceeded 550 nmol/L. Thus, irradiation of the adrenal glands did not lead to a change in their functional state.
