Hypothyroidism: a difficult diagnosis

Abstract

Primary hypothyroidism is one of the most common endocrine diseases. This is a clinical syndrome that develops as a result of persistent deficiency of thyroid hormones or a decrease of their biological effect at the tissue level. The symptoms of the disease are nonspecific and therefore the first contact doctor can be a variety of specialists. It seems relevant to screen thyroid insufficiency by determining the level of thyroid-stimulating hormone in patients with various pathologies. These include diseases of the cardiovascular system, obesity, disorders of lipid and carbohydrate metabolism, neuropsychiatric disorders, anemia, diseases of the reproductive system.
