Post-transplant diabetes mellitus after kidney transplantation: its special aspects and our potentiality

Abstract

One of the common complications after kidney transplantation is post-transplant diabetes mellitus. Until now, there is no strictly algorithm for the management of glycemia in patients after transplantation in the world. Carbohydrate metabolism disorder in this patient cohort has special characteristics due to the use of immunosuppressive therapy. Since post-transplant survival has increased, advanced research activities are determining the efficacy and safety of new classes of antidiabetic drugs in kidney transplant recipients.
