The “metabolic memory” phenomenon in patients with diabetes mellitus and its significance (literature review)

Abstract

The literature review is devoted to the significance of the «metabolic memory» phenomenon in patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Based on large randomized trials the consequences of positive and negative «metabolic memory», which determine the development of dangerous complications and the prognosis of the disease, were studied. Besides the fact of good or poor glycemic control with glycated hemoglobin, the timing and pace of maintaining the target values, that were considered in the studies are important for achieving a clinically significant effect.
