Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome and insulin resistance: is there a relationship?
AbstractSleep breathing disorders are one of the important problems of modern healthcare. The most common in the clinical practice of different specialties is obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSA). A large number of experimental and clinical studies indicate a close bidirectional relationship of OSA with impaired glucose metabolism and type 2 diabetes mellitus. The review presents the latest research data on epidemiology, pathophysiological mechanisms that underlie OSA and insulin resistance, as well as the effect of correction of respiratory disorders during sleep on glucose metabolism.
