Age-related androgen deficiency as a cardiovascular risk factor

Abstract

The effects of androgens on the cardiovascular system are controversial, which limits practical use of testosterone therapy in patents with cardiovascular disease. A review of literature and our data support an adverse effects of age-related androgen deficiency on the cardiovascular status, which increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. Choosing among therapeutic approaches in the androgen deficiency and determination of dose and duration strategy is based on the patient characteristics, age of patient, clinical symptoms and concurrent medical conditions.
