Opposites attract: insulinoma in a patient with type 1 diabetes mellitus
AbstractIrrational insulin therapy is the main reason causing hypoglycemia in a patient with diabetes mellitus. The underlying cause for the development of hypoglycemia in a patient with type 1 diabetes mellitus who stopped injecting over the time may be the rare phenomenon of insulinoma, despite the presence of type 1 diabetes. Computed tomography may not be sensitive enough for diagnosing insulinoma, while endosonography is the gold standard for the topical diagnostics. In this clinical case, the verification of multiple pancreatic insulinomas in a patient with type 1 diabetes mellitus was demonstrated. Taking into account the young age of the patient and the diffuse location of the detected small volumetric formations in the pancreatic tissue maximally organ-preserving method of surgical treatment has been chosen.
