Predictors of a COVID 19 unfavorable prognosis in patients with diabetes mellitus: a retrospective study

Abstract

The aim of study was to the assess the predictors of an unfavorable outcome of a new coronavirus infection (NCVI) in patients with and without diabetes mellitus (DM). According to the results, the presence of concomitant pathology (coronary heart disease, chronic heart failure, cerebrovascular diseases, anemia, arrhythmia) is associated with an increased risk of death in COVID‑19. Analysis of laboratory data revealed a significant increase in the levels of C-reactive protein (CRP), ferritin and D-dimer in the groups of deceased patients. The evaluation of hematological indices determined the relationship between an increased risk of death after NCVI among patients with and without DM and an increase in the level of the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio index, a decrease in the value of the lymphocytic index. The use of neutrophil-to-monocyte ratio indices, lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio and immunoreactivity as a prognosis of the COVID‑19 outcomes is possible only in patients without DM.
