Management of osteoporotic fractures in real clinical practice
AbstractThe aim of the study was to investigate the frequency of prescribing treatment for patients with osteoporosis.
Material and methods. This retrospective trial included 282 patients diagnosed with low-traumatic of femoral neck, spine or multiple fractures, 50+ years. We assessed the detectability of osteoporosis and the frequency of prescribing treatment in patients with low-traumatic fractures in the trauma department. Between-group differences were assessed using Pearson chi-square and Mann–Whitney U-test.
Results. The frequency of low-traumatic fractures was higher in women (79%). Osteoporosis was diagnosed only in 0,4 percent of cases. There were not recommended appointment of anti-osteoporotic drugs, calcium and vitamin D.
Conclusion. Doctors did not diagnose osteoporosis after a pathological fracture and did not prescribe appropriate treatment in the trauma department.
