Comprehensive diagnosis of thyroid nodules using molecular genetic analysis
AbstractIn the course of the study, a comprehensive diagnostic analysis of data from 53 patients with thyroid nodular disease was performed. The conventional diagnostic list also included molecular genetic testing of the presence of gene mutations. According to the results of the study, the presence of mutations of NRAS, KRAS genes showed a numerical advantage in patients with benign nodules, including follicular thyroid adenoma. BRAF gene mutations have been reported in patients with diagnoses such as nodular colloid goiter, papillary cancer, synchronous multiple primary cancer: follicular thyroid carcinoma, papillary thyroid microcarcinoma.
The results of the study illustrated the possibilities of using molecular genetic analysis as an additional method within the framework of complex diagnostics of patients with thyroid nodules, including for the purpose of differential diagnostics of follicular tumours.
