Hypoglycemia: risk management in diabetes mellitus

Abstract

In this review definition of hypoglycemia and its classification are given according to criteria of the American Diabetic Association, European Agency for Evaluation of Medicinal Products, the Canadian Diabetic Association, the Russian Diabetes secondary Care Algorithms. Prevalence of hypoglycemia in patients with type 2 diabetes according to large international researches is shown. The main approaches to prevent hypoglycemic episodes and lower risk for cardiovascular disease are enlightened.
