Dynamics of restoration of vitamin D levels in case of insufficiency/deficiency in young men and women

Abstract

Clinical studies conducted to date have shown a high prevalence of vitamin D deficiency among both the adult and child population of Russia, which reaches 80% in the general population. The issue of the status of vitamin D in young people, including adolescents and children, is insufficiently covered, although it is obvious that a normal vitamin D content is extremely important to ensure adequate bone remodeling in the process of reaching peak bone mass. The question of the magnitude and duration of the use of preventive and saturating doses of vitamin D remains relevant.

Aim. Determination of the status and dynamics of restoration of vitamin D levels while taking the colecalciferol drug – Detrimax® in a population of adults aged 18 to 35 years.

Material and methods. The study involved 112 men and women aged 18 to 35 years, divided into 4 groups according to vitamin D levels. 37 participants with 25-OH vitamin D levels <30 ng/ml (21 men and 16 women) received colecalciferol in the form of Detrimax® Tetra and Detrimax® Active. Doses of colecalciferol 5000 and 7000 IU were used for 3 months. The initial content and dynamics of 25-OH vitamin D in the blood serum of participants with D-deficiency/insufficiency were analyzed by immunochemical analysis when taking saturating doses of colecalciferol.

Results. After three months of saturation therapy, the target blood level of vitamin D (≥30 ng/ml) was achieved by 97.30% of participants, including 21 men (100.00%) and 15 women (93.75%)

Conclusion. The possibility of effective saturation with colecalciferol in the form of the Detrimax® drug in cases of vitamin D insufficiency and deficiency has been confirmed. At the same time, the approach to choosing the loading doses of colecalciferol and the duration of their use seems to be individual, requiring consideration of many factors.
